Environmental Sciences · 5 credits

Introduction to concepts in environmental fluid flows in the field of oceanography, limnology and rivers. Topics such as flux, pressure gradients, frictional stress and drag with environmental applications such large-scale coastal ocean and wind-driven circulation, small-scales of flow within salmon redds, or sediment transport and plankton particle flux convergence in coastal or lake environments. Rates of change, flux and box models for modeling biochemical constituent growth and decay rate modeling, and introductory numerical methods for both prediction and data analysis. Classes will combine lectures and student hands-on problem solving and discussion of assignments. Scientific or graphing calculator recommended.
